Purification of Enzymes refers to the technique for the purification of enzymes by different without disturbing the enzyme activity and its structure. This techniques help the human race for therapeutic uses.

Total number of techniques granted for patents by USPTO is 5 patents. Some of the interesting patented techniques are given below.

Patent No : 4,663,288 titled ‘Process for purification of enzymes’ with the abstract : The disclosure is directed to the resolubilization of an insoluble glucose isomerase-amine complex, wherein the amine has the general formula: ##STR1## The insoluble enzyme complex may be resolubilized to produce a stable concentrated and purified glucose isomerase preparation by reaction with a resolubilizing mixture comprising a cation exchange resin.

Patent No : 4,148,703 titled ‘Method of electrophoretic purification of enzymes and peptides by means of an adjustable, specialized, geometrically located electrode system’ with the abstract : The method of electrophoretic purification of enzymes & peptides which is a continuous, modularized, one-step operation. The method enables the user to secure a high purification of enzymes and peptides simultaneously as it allows their purification on a large scale, the process is modularized with interchangeable parts and contains several divergent configurations such as diagonal linear electrodes, point or ball electrodes, parabolic electrodes, arced electrodes, and other geometrically shaped electrodes. The modularization permits the easy insertion and removal of different geometrically shaped electrodes which allow a multifunctional versatile implementation and application of electrophoresis in the purification of electrically charged biomolecules. The different geometrically shaped electrodes also permit potentially different gradients, thereby enabling different particle velocities, finer separations, and continuous electrophoresis, by means of a higher voltage, in a smaller area, with a decrease in power expenditure. The method includes such innovative features as automatic switching, and repetitive & selective operation of the divergent geometrically shaped electrode systems. The automatic switching consists of electronic circuits which alternately select the various electrode systems to be turned on and off at a given time independently of one another, for a given duration of time, in order to maintain a clearly defined electrical field distribution, or gradient, along the width and length of the gel. The repetitive & selective operation of the divergent geometrically shaped electrode systems enable the selection of the most suitable geometrically shaped electrode system to obtain optimum separation in the purification of particular electrically charged biomolecules.

Patent No: 4,061,828 titled ‘Modified, grafted mineral carriers’ with the abstract: The invention concerns mineral carriers carrying modified silicon grafts. They comprise mineral carriers grafted by silicon derivatives with aromatic amino substituents, modified by substituted or unsubstituted adenine radicals. The carriers are used in chromatography and more particularly in affinity chromatography for the purification of enzymes. Patent No : 4,497,797 titled ‘beta.-Galactosidase inhibitor GT-2558 and its derivatives’with the abstract : beta.-Galactosidase inhibitors GT-2558, GT-2558-A, and GT-2558-B produced by a strain Streptomyces lydicus PA-5726, and their derivatives, acetyl-GT-2558-A and acetyl-GT-2558-B, useful as diagnostatic aid in .beta.-galactosidase deficiency, used in purification of enzymes, in research of new .beta.-galactosidase, in controlling sweetness of lactose-containing foods and in fermentation industry.
