The term Transgenic animals refer to the technique which involves in the reproduction of animals with modified or mutated genome. Some of the patenteed techniques are given below these patented techniques helps the human race in the production of disease resistant animals and for the better reproductive performance
Patent no: 7,138,562 titled ‘Transgenic animals’ with the abstract: The present invention provides improved methods and compositions for the generation of transgenic non-human animals. The present invention permits the introduction of exogenous nucleic acid sequences into the genome of unfertilized eggs (e.g., pre-maturation oocytes and pre-fertilization oocytes) by microinjection of infectious retrovirus into the perivitelline space of the egg. The methods of the present invention provide an increased efficiency of production of transgenic animals with a reduced rate of generating animals which are mosaic for the presence of the transgene.
Patent no: 7,138,380 titled ‘Transgenic animals and cell lines for screening drugs effective for the treatment or prevention of Alzheimer's disease’ with the abstract : Disclosed are transgenic animals and transfected cell lines expressing a protein associated with Alzheimer's Disease, neuroectodermal tumors, malignant astrocytomas, and glioblastomas. Also disclosed is the use of such transgenic animals and transfected cell lines to screen potential drug candidates for treating or preventing Alzheimer's disease, neuroectodermal tumors, malignant astrocytomas, and glioblastomas. The invention also relates to new antisense oligonucleotides, ribozymes, triplex forming DNA and external guide sequences that can be used to treat or prevent Alzheimer's disease, neuroectodermnal tumors, malignant astrocytomas, and glioblastomas.
Patent no: 7,129,084 titled ‘Production of humanized antibodies in transgenic animals’ with the abstract : This invention relates to humanized antibodies and antibody preparations produced from transgenic non-human animals. The non-human animals are genetically engineered to contain one or more humanized immunoglobulin loci which are capable of undergoing gene rearrangement and gene conversion in the transgenic non-human animals to produce diversified humanized immunoglobulins. The present invention further relates to novel sequences, recombination vectors and transgenic vectors useful for making these transgenic animals. The humanized antibodies of the present invention have minimal immunogenicity to humans and are appropriate for use in the therapeutic treatment of human subjects.
Patent no: 7,115,795 titled ‘Transgenic animals expressing salivary proteins’ with the abstract: The invention provides a transgenic animal having within its genome a transgene construct for gastrointestinal tract specific expression of a protein. In a preferred embodiment, the protein is a phytase or a homologue thereof. Such proteins may be heterologous and may be specifically expressed in the salivary gland of the animal by operably linking the nucleic acid sequence encoding the protein with regulatory sequence including a salivary gland protein promoter/enhancer. Also provided are methods of expressing and producing proteins using such nucleic acid constructs. Further, antibodies specific to such proteins and immunological diagnostic kits are also provided.
Patent no: 7,045,676 titled ‘Transgenic animals secreting proteins into milk’ with the abstract : A DNA sequence containing a gene encoding a protein, the gene being under the transcriptional control in the DNA sequence of a mammalian milk protein promoter which does not naturally control the transcription of the gene, such DNA sequence including DNA enabling secretion of the protein.
Patent no: 7,030,289 titled ‘Stabilization of milk from transgenic animals’ with the abstract: The present invention relates to the stabilization of milk from transgenic animals. In particular, the invention relates to the protection of proteins (e.g. fibrinogen) expressed in milk from transgenic animals by co-expression of a serine proteinase inhibitor (e.g., .alpha..sub.1-antitrypsin) in the milk of the transgenic animals.
